Common rivet types include blind rivets and hollow rivets; however, there is another type known as the "nameplate rivet." Do you know where these are used?
Nameplate rivets come in only one style-featuring a round head-and are primarily used to mount and secure equipment nameplates. They are also sometimes found on high-end food packaging. During installation, the tail end of the rivet passes through a small hole; the cylindrical section of the tail is then flared back to create a double-sided fastening effect, completing the process.
Nameplate rivets are single-use fasteners that cannot be reused once installed. They are available in stainless steel and carbon steel; carbon steel versions can be finished with zinc or copper plating. Common diameters are limited to 2, 3, 4, and 5 millimeters. While various lengths are available, extremely long nameplate rivets are not manufactured.
Nameplate rivets are not particularly common in the general fastener industry, though their usage is higher in economically developed regions.
